Fortnite: Everything New in the Delulu Mode

Fortnite added the new Delulu mode last Friday. It joins the many battle royale modes already in the game. However, this one stands out as it is only here for a short time. Also, Delulu blends social interaction with survival. It creates a messy but fun take on the classic formula.

A Different Kind of Battle Royale

According to Epic Games, the Delulu mode is a no-build, solo battle royal. In this one, there will be 80 players on the island. Every player can team up with anyone nearby mid-match through a special emote. Squads are allowed to have a maximum of four members. However, all alliances are fragile, for only one person can win in the end. Players are free to turn on their teammates and fight them. In the same way, they must be alert as everybody can do the same thing. This social layer makes every round surprising.

Expanded In-Game Communication

Epic Games has also included a proximity voice chat. This feature lets players talk with each other. Plus, they are not limited to communicating only with their teammates. They are allowed to speak to nearby non-squadmates. Even spectators can chat with each other. They can also listen to the surviving players.

To join, players must set voice chat to “Everybody.” For Xbox users, they need to switch from platform chat to Fortnite’s voice chat.

Tactical Play and Rewards

The developers have emphasized that teaming is not bannable in this mode unlike standard matches in Fortnite. In fact, it is the whole point of Delulu mode.

A GameSpot article also said that players get knocked down before dying. And anyone can perform a res — even enemies. This twist leads to unexpected moments of mercy or trickery. It adds another layer to the game’s challenge.

Epic Games is giving away the Crashbrella for anyone who gets a Victory Royale in the mode before September 29. For the unfamiliar, it is a cosmetic reward to celebrate survival skills.

Community Reactions and Moderation

Many have praised Delulu mode. Some players even call it the best thing to ever happen to the game. However, not everyone is playing nice. GameRant reported an uptick in moderation and bans. These are due to voice chat misuse. While it seems too strict, it helps the mode remain fun and safe.

Availability

Fortnite’s Delulu Mode is available in two-weekend windows. The first one started last September 19 and ends today. For those who missed it, they can try the new offering from September 26 to 29. Who knows? If this mode receives overwhelming positive feedback, it could become permanent in the game.
