Olivia Rodrigo’s new album opens at No. 1 as Grammy buzz builds

Olivia Rodrigo‘s third studio album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So In Love, has debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 dated June 27, delivering the biggest commercial week of her career and fueling early speculation about the 2027 Grammy Awards.

The album opened with 485,000 equivalent album units in the United States during the week ending June 18. It marks Rodrigo’s biggest week by units and the largest week of 2026 for any solo artist.

Topping the Hot 100 and charts worldwide

On the Billboard Hot 100, all 13 songs from the album landed inside the top 30, including 11 debuts. “Stupid Song” entered at No. 3, while “Drop Dead” rose to No. 4 after debuting and spending one week at No. 1. “The Cure” climbed to No. 6 after debuting and peaking at No. 5.

The 11 new entries pushed Rodrigo’s career total to 43 Hot 100 hits. Of those, 10 have reached the top 10 and 37 have landed in the top 40. Every song from the standard editions of her three studio albums has now reached the Hot 100’s top 40.

The album also dominated internationally. It debuted at No. 1 on the U.K. Official Albums Chart dated June 19 with 103,000 chart units, the biggest opening week for an international album in Britain in 2026. The total more than doubled the U.K. debuts of SOUR (51,000) and GUTS (60,000).

It also opened at No. 1 on the Australian ARIA Chart, where all 13 tracks landed inside the top 30.

Rodrigo said the U.K. achievement felt especially meaningful because she wrote many of the songs there.

Rodrigo’s reaction

Speaking with Australia’s Nova network on June 24, Rodrigo described the response to the album as overwhelming.

“I’ve had the happiest week ever. It feels so amazing to have this record out in the world,” she said. Rodrigo added that she had spent roughly two years writing and refining the songs and that seeing listeners connect with them felt like a dream come true.

Asked about the secret to her continued success, Rodrigo credited the people around her rather than any career strategy.

She said she is “navigating my way through this crazy old world,” but credited the unwavering support of those closest to her with keeping her grounded. She said her friends have helped keep her sane and encouraged others facing similar challenges to be mindful of the company they keep.

When asked about a possible Australian tour, Rodrigo remained noncommittal.

“I am so on album mode. I like literally cannot see five feet in front of [me],” she told the hosts, before adding that she loves Australia and hopes to return soon.

She last performed in the country in October 2024 during the GUTS World Tour, with stops in Sydney and Melbourne.

Grammy speculation builds

The album’s strong commercial performance and positive reviews have sparked early discussion about the 2027 Grammy Awards, scheduled for February 7, 2027, in Los Angeles.

Among combined predictions from experts, editors and users tracked by Gold Derby, Rodrigo currently trails BTS and Olivia Dean in projected Album of the Year contention.

Other awards-watch outlets have placed You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So In Love among likely Album of the Year contenders alongside The Art of Loving, The Romantic, LUX and The Great Divide.

Rodrigo’s commercial momentum could help or hurt her chances depending on how Grammy voters view her latest work. Meanwhile, lead single “Drop Dead” was already considered a strong contender for major Grammy nominations before the album’s release, with its prospects in song-specific categories continuing to rise afterward.
