Sinners Scores Big with Audiences and Box Office

Ryan Coogler’s Sinners is set to be one of the best films of the year due to outstanding audience scores and box office figures.

Successful Box Office Debut

Prior to its cinema premiere, it was predicted to earn $30 million. Consequently, the film surpassed the predictions and grossed around $48 million in its opening over Easter weekend, Carly Thomas of The Hollywood Reporter says. Sinners also ranked first at the domestic box office, outperforming A Minecraft Movie.

According to Sophie Caraan of Hypebeast, nearly 50% of the opening weekend earnings come from PLF, IMAX, and different 70MM showings. At the same time, the movie held a significant presence in the West, South, and East.

Moreover, a Deadline article mentioned that 47% of moviegoers said lead actor Michael B. Jordan was their reason for watching. On the other hand, 40% of the audience revealed that Coogler was their reason for seeing the film.

Impressive CinemaScore

No other film, especially in the horror genre, achieved the highest CinemaScore possible except for Sinners. It pioneers the A CinemaScore for a horror motion picture.

Based on the Deadline article, a notable percentage of moviegoers shared good feedback. More specifically, many of them watched the film after hearing good things about it. Likewise, they will advise their friends to experience Sinners in theaters. Furthermore, viewers mentioned that they were excited to see a second installment.

Ryan Coogler’s Eternal Gratitude

After the victorious opening of the film, the director penned a letter to express his gratitude to everyone who went to see the movie.

“I want to thank you all who watched more than once, who recommended the film to others, both in person and on social media or on your text message chains,” reads a part of the letter.

The film revolves around twin brothers (played by Jordan) who return to their hometown trying to escape their dark past behind. However, they find out that an even greater evil awaits them.

It stars Michael B. Jordan, Hailee Steinfeld, Jack O’Connell, and more.
