Bonnie Tyler’s family shares concerning health update

Bonnie Tyler‘s family has confirmed that the Welsh singer is no longer in a medically induced coma, though she remains in serious condition at a hospital in Portugal.

The update, posted on Tyler’s official website on June 15, was the first substantial news on her condition in more than a month and came alongside the cancelation of her summer tour schedule.

“Bonnie’s family and team would like to update everyone on how she is progressing with her recovery,” the statement read. “Bonnie is no longer in a coma but remains very unwell and in intensive care in hospital in Portugal. Although her condition is improving it is a slow process. Her doctors remain confident that she will make a good recovery but it is going to take time.”

The 75-year-old singer, born Gaynor Hopkins, has spent several weeks hospitalized in Faro, Portugal, where she owns a home, after undergoing emergency intestinal surgery.

Timeline of Tyler’s hospitalization

According to statements posted on Tyler’s website, the health scare began in early May. On May 6, her team announced that she had been admitted to a hospital in Faro for emergency intestinal surgery after suffering a tear in her bowel. Representatives said at the time that the procedure “went well” and that she was recuperating.

A follow-up statement issued on May 8 revealed that doctors had placed Tyler in an induced coma to aid her recovery.

“We know that you all wish her well and ask for privacy at this difficult time please,” the statement said, adding that further updates would be provided when possible.

By May 12, representatives described Tyler as “seriously ill but stable” and said her doctors remained “positive that she will make a full recovery.” Around the same time, her team pushed back against what it described as “lurid and untrue rumours” circulating online about her condition and urged fans not to trust unverified reports.

The June 15 update was the most detailed statement since mid-May, confirming that Tyler had emerged from the coma while showing the seriousness of her condition.

Summer tour dates canceled

As a result of her hospitalization, Tyler’s team announced that all remaining performances through the end of August would be canceled or postponed until next year “where possible.”

The affected dates were part of a European tour marking the 50th anniversary of her recording career, which began with the 1976 release of her debut single, “My! My! Honeycomb.”

“We apologize to all of Bonnie’s fans and to our promoter partners for the disappointment that this will cause but trust that you will understand and bear with us in these difficult circumstances,” the statement read. “We hope to see you next year instead.”

Despite the cancelations, Tyler’s team said they remain “hopeful” she will be able to return to live performances in the fall, depending on her recovery.

If that timeline holds, her earliest possible return would be October 23 in Bucharest, Romania, where she is scheduled to perform at the Sala Palatului.

The Bucharest concert was added to the tour as a lead-in to a series of shows across Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Current tour listings also include dates in November and December across Germany and the United Kingdom, pending confirmation as Tyler’s recovery continues.
