Final Destination Franchise Set for a Brutal Comeback

Death has a to-do list in the biggest, brutal comeback of the death-defying Final Destination franchise. The official trailer of Final Destination: Bloodlines dropped Tuesday, teasing the unseen hand of fate.

Bloodlines is New Line Cinema’s iconic horror franchise comeback offering to its loyal fans. It is the first film after 14 long years, since the fifth film in 2011. In the same sense, it has been a while since the film series immersed viewers in gripping suspense and fatal situations.

Continuing Stories about Dodging Death’s Curveballs

The trailer, which was under three minutes, opens with a scene wherein a family is supposedly having a lovely barbecue day. However, fate has prepared a twisted plan. Specifically, the teaser hints that the family gathering will go wrong when a shattered glass ends up in a drinking glass, a misplaced beer causes unforeseen danger, and a trampoline activity leads to a scary incident.

More concretely, the preview reveals that death is now seemingly a generational curse. It follows the story of a young woman, portrayed by Kaitlyn Santa Juana, who went home to uncover the truth behind the terrors her family was experiencing. Apparently, her grandmother, Iris (played by Gabrielle Rose), had a premonition when she was young and managed to escape death. Years later, after starting a family, she realizes that her survival was simply a detour. Death is now coming after her family, specifically her grandchildren. “Death is coming for us because we were never supposed to exist,” Kaitlyn’s character stated in the trailer. The events suggest that the characters will race against fate’s relentless pursuit and try to discover whether escaping is just an illusion.

The film cast includes Kaitlyn Santa Juana, Owen Patrick Joyner, Richard Harmon, Teo Briones, April Telek, Gabrielle Rose, and Tony Todd. It is directed by Adam Stein and Zach Lipovsky, while Guy Busick and Lori Evans Taylor wrote the screenplay.

Final Destination: Bloodlines will premiere in theaters on May 16.
