Lenovo introduced a concept laptop that integrates a solar panel during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025 yesterday. The technology company calls it the Yoga Solar PC Concept (POC).
According to an article by Lenovo, the device caters to “…those who turn any space — indoors or outdoors—into a productive workspace.”
Additionally, the electronic manufacturer aims to reduce users’ reliance on power cables through the new early proof-of-concept device. In line with this, it features a solar panel attached to the lid of the laptop.
At the same time, the Yoga Solar PC utilizes a Back Contact Cell technology to maximize active absorption. Consequently, the concept laptop achieves a 24% conversion rate, which is among the industry’s highest.
Lenovo also claims that the device can absorb and transform solar energy to provide around an hour of video playback. They say that the process only takes 20 minutes to finish, but one needs to stay working outdoors on a clear sunny day.
Moreover, the creators of Thinkbook stressed that they are still evaluating its performance in low-light conditions, Andrew Liszewski of TheVerge reports.
Nevertheless, Lenovo explains that the Yoga Solar PC can still sustain a battery charge when idle, even in lower light intensity.
Lenovo’s Sustainable Innovation
The arrival of the Yoga Solar PC proof of concept is part of Lenovo’s long-term plan. Furthermore, it represents its goal to achieve a future that merges innovation and renewal energy.
“The device aims to bridge the gap between functionality and environmental awareness,” Lenovo says.
More concretely, the device integrates a cutting-edge Dynamic Solar Tracking system with the Solar-First Energy system. The combination enables current and voltage measuring while adjusting the settings to help reach maximum energy savings.
As of now, Lenovo has not announced official plans to begin production of the Yoga Solar PC.
